Seems like the upcoming show has no need to go back to its roots.
NCIS ’ brand new spinoff titled NCIS: Tony & Ziva following Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo’s characters in Europe after they both quit NCIS comes as an exciting opportunity to not only bring the beloved couple back to the screen, but also to reunite them with their former colleagues sometime during a mission they’ll be carrying out.
Given Tony and Ziva’s background history at NCIS with a tight bond created between them and other Special Agents who they have been working together with for years, it wouldn’t come as a big surprise if more of NCIS’ original characters would pop up at some point.
However, the chances for the fans’ biggest dream to come true have considerably faded after the show’s recent casting update.
According to several reports published earlier, NCIS: Tony & Ziva is indeed aiming at an international level of its missions since the cast will also include a British guard aka presumably a babysitter for Tali, a Russian hacker extraordinaire and a French Interpol liaison.
There’s so far no way to predict how exactly all these characters will be related to Tony and Ziva and whether they will be their allies or rather enemies, but so far the lead characters appear to have enough interactions with side characters to make the plot line compelling even without bringing their friends from NCIS up to the stage.

On top of that, NCIS: Tony & Ziva being set in Europe isn’t just a way for the whole franchise to become even more diverse, but rather a means for the show to get separated from the original series as much as possible since Ziva’s actress Cote de Pablo once admitted so.
With a backup team already prepared to follow them across Europe, Tony and Ziva don’t really have a need to reach out to some of the former team members like Tony McGee, Jimmy Palmer or even Leroy Jethro Gibbs.
Instead, their paths could somehow cross in case one of their ex-colleagues is suddenly having a vacation in Europe. Without such an option, bringing NCIS’ characters to the spinoff would make no sense as Tony and Ziva are experienced agents and thus are capable of dealing with risky missions on their own.
NCIS: Tony & Ziva is set to arrive on Paramount+ later this year.
